Become a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer
All of Northern Ireland’s Cadet Forces owe their existence to the team of dedicated Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, who give up their time to help provide engaging, challenging and fun activities for our Sea, Army and RAF Cadets.
These youth organisations are dependent on volunteers, and are always recruiting for new staff. Do you, or someone you know – friends, other family members, neighbours etc. – have a few hours a week to help us out? Even if you can only spare one evening a week, or perhaps can only help on odd occasions when time allows, we would still love to hear from you or anyone you know who might be able to support us.
There are many practical benefits of volunteering with us, including:
- Opportunity to participate in cadet activities (adventure training, expeditions etc.)
- Gaining new skills (and service specific skills)
- Be involved in the development and training of young people
- Achieving Vocational Qualifications
- Volunteer Allowance
- Expenses for any travel
No military experience or background is required and all training will be provided.
Of course, the biggest benefit and greatest reward from volunteering with the Cadets is helping young people learn new skills, overcome fears or difficulties and seeing them grow into responsible young adults. If you want to, you will also have the opportunity to take part in the same activities as the cadets, such as adventure training (canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing etc.), fieldcraft, shooting, flying, sailing and even travel abroad on international exercises. You can develop your own strengths such as leadership skills, team building and confidence, and you can even gain vocational qualifications ranging from First Aid through to Mountain Leader Training.
If you would like to know more, or you know someone who may be interested in helping out, you can contact each cadet service through their national websites. Each has information about volunteering and details on how to get in touch. Just a few hours a week can make a big difference… to you and the young people you could help inspire.
