Saturday 4th November 2017 saw the 204 (North Irish) Field Hospital Annual Study Day once again taking place at the Island Civic Centre in Lisburn. This event, which is now a firm fixture in Northern Ireland in the postgraduate medical and nursing education scene, attracted over 350 delegates. Although aimed at medics and nurses the theme this year “Team dynamics in tough environments” also attracted infanteers, mountain rescue personnel and PSNI officers. Brigadier Tim Hodgetts, giving a very amusing insight on how to lead the team, delivered the keynote lecture. The quality of the speakers was very high and all rated extremely highly on the post-event feedback. Of particular note however were Dr Neil Spenceley from Glasgow discussing team culture and Dr Yourdi Yordanov from Paris who gave a frontline view into the system response in Paris to the Bataclan massacre.
The aim of the day is to deliver education to our own personnel and showcase the Army Reserve to potential recruits, which it seemed to achieve, with a number of enquiries being made about joining.
Next year’s event is already booked in Lisburn on Saturday 3rd November 2018- so be sure to keep your diaries clear for what promises to be another interesting day!
