On Thursday 22 Feb 18, Colonel Mark Sheridan completed his final duty as Commanding Officer of 204 (NI) Field Hospital by running the Northern Ireland Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (NIHEMS) Leadership Day at Hydebank Army Reserve Centre Belfast.

NIHEMS, based at the Maze site, is now up and running, relying on charity funding to operate. Its main sponsor is The Ulster Farmers’ Union, who in their 100th year are aiming to raise £100,000 for the project.

Receiving relevant training is of utmost importance, so running the leadership day at 204 Field Hospital provided the team with hands on training, using specialised equipment in the morning, followed by a team building exercise in the afternoon.

Dr Darren Monaghan, clinical lead for the NIHEMS, thanked the team at 204 for the training provided and said that it had benefited the team immensely. He welcomed the opportunity to train together again, as the new service continues to strive to improve and to ultimately provide well governed pre-hospital care to the whole of Northern Ireland.
