AMERICAN EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITY FOR NORTHERN IRELAND AIR CADET

Cadet Warrant Officer Woods from East Belfast Air Cadets, has arrived in Washington DC after being chosen as one of only 50 cadets from the United Kingdom to take part in an exciting International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) programme.

The International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) plan and run world-wide exchanges for aviation-minded young people who for 15 days every July and August get the opportunity to expand their horizons, get a taste of the other’s culture and gain other great cadet experiences – making life-long friendships at the same time.
                                                
Since the first exchange in 1947 between the UK and the Canadian Air Cadets, the world-wide air cadet family now comprises more than 20 nations, with around 600 cadets/volunteer staff exchanging annually, heading off to about 15 different countries around the world. 

Cadet Warrant Officer Woods will get an opportunity to fly in various aircraft types, as well as visiting Washington DC, Colorado, Yellowstone National Park and Salt Lake City.

But he didn’t just get this opportunity by chance – his success consisted of a recommendation, an application and two stages of interviews by high level Air Cadet Officials. Many teenagers would find this unnerving however Cadet Warrant Officer Woods is not your average air cadet – earlier this year he became only the third cadet from Northern Ireland to graduate from the Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course, a course which took 6 months of hard work and travelling to England to complete. So he is fully deserving of this amazing opportunity.
