Christina Edgar 13, from Movilla Army Cadets in Newtownards recently donated 15 inches of her hair to the children’s charity The Little Princess Trust, who help supply real hair wigs for children who lose their hair through cancer treatment.
Not only did she give up her hair, but she also managed to raise a huge £710 in sponsorship for the charity while she was doing it.
The Little Princess Trust was set up in 2006 by parents who had lost their young daughter Hannah, to cancer. They realised while she was going through her treatment, how difficult it was to find high quality wigs for children and what a difference it made to their daughter when they did find one. When Hannah died in 2005 they decided that it would be a fitting tribute to their ‘little princess’ to launch a charity dedicated to providing specialist real hair children’s wigs to boys and girls in Hannah’s situation.
The charity now also provides financial assistance for research into the causes of childhood cancer and minimising the effects of chemotherapy on children.
Christina would like to thank all of those who donated, including the North Down Branch of the Ulster Defence Regiment Association and the Somme Society and also Ricardo from Deja VU who made the cut.
If you want to help, you can still donate on her Grandfathers just giving page:
