
The Royal Irish Family held its recent Remembrance Service at St Anne’s Cathedral, this year the focus was the 80th anniversary of operations in Italy and Northwest Europe, with an emphasis on the Normandy Campaign and the Liberation of Rome. The event, attended by Reservists, Soldiers, Veterans, Family and Friends of the Royal Irish Regiment and the community in Belfast, is an annual occasion where the Regiment comes together in a poignant act of Remembrance, ahead of the National Armistice day.
Royal Irish Cadets from 1st and 2nd (Northern Ireland) Battalion Army Cadets and from Campbell College Strathearn School Combined Cadets assisted with the event by acting as ushers, issuing programmes and delivering readings.
Also, In a symbolic tribute, 3 Royal Irish Cadets from 2nd (NI) Battalion Army Cadets presented the Dean of St Anne’s, the Very Reverend Stephen Forde Dean with sand they had gathered from Sword Beach in Normandy on the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The sand was placed in the Sanctuary for subsequent safekeeping in the Regimental Chapel.
