NEW CADET PROJECT “FOR YOUR FREEDOM AND OURS” EXPLORING POLISH MILITARY HISTORY DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR

C and D Company detachments and cadets are currently undertaking a Shared history Project “For Your Freedom & Ours” The Project is a six-week long programme exploring Polish military history from the Second World War period and links with Northern Ireland.

Earlier in the year Ballymena, detachment completed the project and were presented with certificates of completion and an OCN level two certificate by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Edward Montgomery, Mayor Alderman Noel Williams and Polish Consul General Mariusz Stus.

Over 30 cadets from Whitehouse detachment attended an introductory session with Maciek Bator recently and are looking forward to participating.

Both Cadets and adult volunteers from Cullybackey, Whitehouse and Aldergrove detachments in C and D Company will be participating in the project in the coming weeks. 2349 Ballymena Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets & Sea Cadets Ballymena are also currently participating in the project.

Maciek Bator who leads the project stated, “This approach will allow us to deliver our shared history programme to 80 young people from the mentioned areas. Our campaign will focus on the history of the Polish Air Force in the Second World War, as well as the Polish military presence in Northern Ireland during that period. The cadets will also have the chance to learn about the impact of the conflict on Poland and the Polish people and the tragic history of the German concentration camps”

Major Read Assistant Commandant Communities 1NIACF stated “I am delighted that the Cadets and Adult volunteers are taking part in the For Your Freedom and Ours Project” “Having undertaken the project myself with a wide range of communities it is exciting to see cadets having the opportunity to take part in the project and gain valuable knowledge and learning which also feeds into the community engagement element of what we deliver in The Army Cadets”.
