The 2nd (Northern Ireland) Battalion, Army Cadet Force has a detachment located in Holywood, County Down. Each Army Cadet detachment is affiliated and sponsored by units within either the Regular Army or the Army Reserve.
A new Army Reserve sub unit was formed a few years ago in Kinnegar Logisitics Base from Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) Reserve troops scattered throughout Northern Ireland. Once fully established, this REME Company were keen to adopt and sponsor an Army Cadet Force detachment. Being located immediately next door, it made perfect sense for the Holywood Army Cadet Force detachment to rebadge to a REME cap badge.
