Enniskillen teenager Odhran Curry been appointed to serve as Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for the County of Antrim.
Odhran who is an enthusiastic and highly capable Cadet Sergeant with the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School Army Cadet Force Detachment takes on a largely ceremonial year-long role during which he will attend The Viscount Brookeborough, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County of Fermanagh, on major civic occasions. In recognition of the award Odhran will be entitled to wear a special insignia on his uniform throughout his year in office.
In the Citation which accompanies the honour, Odhran is described as ‘a well-respected, loyal and dedicated member of his Detachment’ and ‘an excellent role model to new Cadets.’ A firm believer in leading by example, Odhran’s personal turnout, bearing and high standards give those younger Cadets something to aspire to and he regularly offers support and guidance to younger members of his Detachment.
Odhran is a keen and able sportsman who trains with passion and commitment, ably representing Northern Ireland at ACF National Football Competitions.
As well as working towards his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Odhran also has an appetite for volunteering and the community, most notably fundraising for Autism NI.
He is pictured with his proud mum, Stephanie, and The Viscount Brookeborough, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County of Fermanagh. While the ceremony to mark the conferral of her prestigious award was socially-distanced, Odhran is already looking forward to a busy year ahead as Covid restrictions lift.
