Liz Honoured with Gala Date

Newtownabbey woman Liz Doak has become the first person to be honoured with a new award created to recognise the commitment and dedication of Adult Volunteers within Northern Ireland’s Cadet Movement.

The award is the brainchild of Colonel David McCleery OBE, Chairman of the Army Cadet Force Association (NI), who says, “This group of people do sterling work for our Cadets, for the cadet movement and, indeed, for society in general – without any thought of return. The positive impact they make on the lives of our young people cannot be over-estimated and I am delighted to create an opportunity to give them a very public ‘thank-you’.”

Captain Liz Doak of the 1st (NI) Battalion ACF who joined the organisation in March 2009 is the first person to receive the accolade and the prize of a trip to London to attend the annual AFCA flagship event, allowing her to widen her understanding of the essential role the ACFA plays in the Army Cadet Force.

Colonel McCleery says, “Liz exemplifies the best qualities of the Adult Volunteer and approaches her work with boundless enthusiasm and a strong sense of purpose. The honest warmth of her personality has made her a firm favourite with both fellow Instructors and Cadets and we are all delighted to see her honoured in this way.”
