In line with a national initiative by the Army, reservists from NI pass on their engineering skills to 200 scouts, enabling them to achieve their Scout Mechanic Badge and to gain a range of new skills in the process.

157 Divisional Support Company, part of 102 Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), welcomed 200 scouts from across Northern Ireland to their unit and set up 9 different stands for them, each representing a different part of a vehicle.  The scouts received demonstrations from the unit personnel and then they all performed the tasks themselves, ensuring that everyone got involved and learnt a range of mechanic-related skills.

A hearty lunch was laid on for the scouts by the chefs from 152 (North Irish) Regiment RLC and every scout went home with their well-earned badge and a certificate.

The weekend was an enormous success and it is hoped that it can be repeated for more scouts in the future.
