NORTHERN IRELAND RESERVISTS AND CADETS HONOURED AT HILLSBOROUGH CASTLE

Local reservists and cadets have been honoured at a formal ceremony at Hillsborough Castle, receiving some of the highest accolades that can be conferred on members of the Reserve Forces and the Cadet movement.

Presented with the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Outstanding Meritorious Service Above and Beyond The Call of Duty – an award which is second in importance only to one presented by Her Majesty The Queen – were 19 reservists and cadet adult instructors from across Northern Ireland.

At the same ceremony, nine cadets, who had been selected as Lord Lieutenants’ Cadets for the year 2015-16, were presented with their certificates by the Lord Lieutenants from their respective counties.  The cadets can expect a busy year ahead as they attend their Lord Lieutenants on major civic occasions.  In recognition of the award, they will wear a special insignia on their uniform throughout their year in office.

The certificate presentations took place in front of the recipients’ proud families, who were greeted on arrival by pipers from both the 2nd Battalion the Royal Irish Regiment (2 R Irish) and the 1st (NI) Bn Army Cadet Force (ACF).

Afterwards, the guests, recipients and Lord Lieutenants enjoyed afternoon tea, accompanied by a brass ensemble from 2 Royal Irish.

We extend our sincere congratulations to all recipients and we hope that they had an enjoyable and memorable day.
