
The weekend of 5th September 2014 saw hundreds of Sea Cadets descend upon the Excel Centre in London for the annual National Combined Regatta. This is an event that tests the young adults in skills such as boat handling, Kayaking and rowing. Over a hundred cadets and staff from Northern Ireland took part in the competition, winning 22 Kayaking medals (and being placed 2nd overall), 18 Rowing medals and 1 Yole medal.
The event was attended by many spectators and VIPs including Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Jonathan RN and the Chief Executive of the Marine Society and Sea Cadets , Mr Martin Coles, who were impressed by the comradeship and competiveness from all the Sea Cadets who were in attendance.
The district officer for Northern Ireland, Lt Cdr (SCC) Cliff Burns RNR said “My congratulations to all the cadets and staff who attended the National Regatta. The Northern Ireland team is very much the team that is seen as the main competition, and the team certainly lived up to its name.”
