SEA CADETS CELEBRATE 80 YEAR HISTORY IN NORTHERN IRELAND WITH SPECIAL ROYAL VISITOR 

The Princess Royal, Princess Anne surprised members of the Sea Cadets with a special visit to help to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Sea Cadets in Northern Ireland on Wednesday 2 November 2022. The Princess Royal was welcomed by his Majesty’s Lieutenant of County Antrim, Mr David McCorkell.

The event, which unfortunately due to very bad weather had to be staged indoors at the Carrickfergus Civic Centre, The move from outdoors to indoors certainly did not dampen the excitement of the event.  Princes Anne is patron of The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity wore her official uniform and delivered a meaningful speech to the assembled crowd mentioning the admiration and fondness both her mother Queen Elizabeth and her grandfather King George had for the Sea Cadets.   The event was attended by the High Sheriff of County Antrim, Mr John Lockett OBE, Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim and several dignitaries and senior high ranking uniformed guests from across Northern Ireland.

After her speech, the Princess Royal performed a military inspection of the members in attendance, in line with her naval titles.  After the inspection the Princes Royal enjoyed meeting many of the local sea cadet community and even cut a special ‘birthday cake’
