Sean Scullion, 14, an Air Cadet from Coleraine, had his first solo flight recently from the Ulster Gliding Club airfield in Bellarena, Co Londonderry.
Sean’s Instructor on the day, Owen Anderson said, “he was very confident, conditions were good on the day. He did everything right and it was more or less a perfect flight and one he’ll never forget. You never forget your first solo flight”.
Sean has been very dedicated to his training and has accumulated over 30 flying hours and trained most weeks (weather permitting), clocking up over 50 training flights prior to his solo run.
Sean’s Air Cadet Squadron greeted him with a big round of applause when he attended his next training night – being one of the Coleraine Cadets who recently went to RAF Woodvale in Scotland to train in powered aircraft, he is definitely one to watch out for.
If you are interested in flying, why not think about joining the air cadets (follow the ‘find a unit’ link above) or call 0800 730 730.
