Reserves

The mission of the Reserve Forces is to “contribute to the UK’s military capability, both deployed overseas and in the UK, whilst maintaining links with society and local community.”

One-third of the UK Armed Forces comes from the Volunteer Reserve. Nationally, around 33,000 people serve in the Volunteer Reserve, with NIs figures sitting at around 1,600 (Royal Navy and Marine Reserve = 100, Army Reserve = 1350 and RAuxAF = 160. The role of the Reserves has transformed dramatically in recent years. The requirement for a highly skilled, professional Reserve to augment their full-time counterparts is of utmost importance to maintain an effective national defence.

How does RFCA NI support the Reserve?

Reserve Estate – RFCA NI Manages the Reserve Estate, including maintenance, repair, project-managed refurbishments and rebuilds.

Employer Support – Reservists’ success depends on their employers – RFCA NI works to promote good relationships between companies and the MOD, promoting the Armed Forces Covenant and raising awareness of the Reserve Forces and the benefits of employing Reservists in their business.

Engagement – RFCA NI works hard to maintain strong links with our regional Chain of Command through our Volunteer Membership made up from members of our units, along with selected military, ex-officio and community representatives.

Reservists are an essential part of UK Defence strategy. They are called upon as individuals for their specific skills or as ready-formed units to serve alongside the Regular Forces whenever required.
