Andrea’s Soaring to Success with Air Cadets

Andrea Steed who lives on the Ards Peninsula earned the recognition for her role as Adult Instructor with the Air Training Corps. When she reached the landmark twelve years of service she earned the Cadet Forces Medal – and now, six years later, she has been presented with a Clasp to mark her continuing commitment.

Congratulating Andrea on her achievement, Wing Commander Mike Miskimmon said; “The Air Training Corps depends on the tireless support of its Adult Volunteers and we are always delighted when the contribution to young people is formally recognised. Andrea’s enthusiasm and good humour have made her a popular as well as a much respected figure in 1137 Squadron and she is a model of the sort of adult we are currently seeking to attract with our Adult Instructor recruitment campaign.”

He added; “Air Cadets are a demanding bunch, tackling a vast number of challenging activities, earning qualifications and developing skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Adult Instructors have to keeps pace with that, but it is never dull in the ATC and, as Andrea demonstrates. The right sort of adult support can really help young people to soar.”

Andrea was also congratulated on her award by Air Commodore Dawn McRafferty, who had the opportunity to see for herself, how the Air Cadets are settling into their sparkling new accommodation at Clonaver Tri-Service Cadet Centre at Clonaver Park.
