Antrim celebrated a friendly invasion over the weekend as the town hosted Northern Ireland’s Armed Forces Day. The family-friendly day of entertainment and pageantry staged by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and the Ministry of Defence attracted thousands of spectators to enjoy a range of themed celebrations, including a parade and interdenominational drumhead service involving hundreds of military personnel and veterans.
In the central event stadium a full line up of family fun events awaited, from arena acts to wow the crowd, street traders, military bands and a capability demonstration showing the current work of the Tri-Services. There was also a team-building challenge competition between local schools and teams from the cadet organisations, which proved a huge success.

The Military Village was also hugely popular, with lots of equipment on display and great attractions for both young and old.

We would like to thank Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for hosting such a fantastic event and making the Armed Forces feel so welcome in their Borough.
