The recent World Police and Fire Games helped to showcase Northern Ireland to the world as it hosted contenders from over 30 countries in a number of sporting disciplines.
The smooth running of the event was helped along by the local Cadets who volunteered to help run the shooting events at Ballykinler Ranges.
The athletes were so impressed with the performance of the cadets in running the competition areas at all ten shooting disciplines that the participating teams asked for a formal letter registering their appreciation to be sent out to every cadet volunteer.
Passing on that vote of thanks and adding his own words of appreciation, Colonel Hubert McAllister, Chairman of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association Northern Ireland said,
“The World Games Governing Body has acknowledged that the shooting element of the 2013 Games was the most successful ever – due in no small way to the commitment, professionalism and dedication shown by the young men and women volunteers from the Northern Ireland Cadet Forces. We are always proud of our Cadets – and with very good reason – these latest accolades are very welcome!
“The cadets who took part showed great community spirit and have clearly demonstrated that they have a number of talents to offer any employer. They showed they were capable of operating complex equipment, managing scores and timekeeping and getting a job done properly, without fuss and with great humour.
“As Chairman of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Northern Ireland I offer my heartfelt congratulations to these highly motivated young people and my sincere thanks for promoting the cadet movement in such a positive light on the world stage.
“They can justifiably be proud of their achievements throughout the period of the games and for the time, effort and industry they applied to ensure such a successful outcome. Parents, families, schools and indeed the wider community can be proud of these young people.”
