CADETS MOUNT ‘COMBINED OPERATION’ AGAINST LITTER

There was a finely tuned ‘combined operation ’ staged against the litter menace in Cullybackey last week. Cullybackey College Army Cadet Force, C Company, 1st (NI) Battalion invited the cadets and adult volunteers from both Ballymena Air and Sea Cadets to join forces and tidy up the village ahead of the Cullybackey Community Partnership’s (CCP) entry to the Britain in Bloom. With Jeff Hamill from Mid and East Antrim Borough Council providing the equipment and removal of litterbags and Cranswick Country Foods who sponsored the additional litter pickers there was no stopping the big clean up.

 The damp May weather didn’t dampen the atmosphere as the tri service cadets got to know each other whilst they walked along searching for rubbish. Afterwards the cadets loaded the many bags of litter into the Council’s van leaving the Fenaghy Road, Cullybackey litter free.They were then rewarded with refreshing drinks and fruit supplied by Tesco. This great venture also goes towards Duke of Edinburgh Award and the John Muir Environmental Award.
