Young cadets from 2nd NI Bn ACF have recently had the chance to get stuck in to what cadets is all about, at the “Easter Dawn” training camp for recruits.

During the weeklong camp at the custom built Ballykinler – Cadet Training Centre, the recruits got to try their hand at a lot of the subjects that they will learn as they progress in the Army Cadets.  Things like drill, first aid training, map reading, adventure training and skill-at-arms.

The cadets were working towards their Basic Star – the first out of six levels in the Army Cadet Force, Army Proficiency Certificate (APC) Syllabus. All off the 64 cadets who attended were able to achieve this goal, due, not only to their own hard work but to the dedication of the Adult Instructors who gave up their Easter Holidays to attend training.

One cadet from each of the three platoons was awarded a prize for being the most improved in that platoon – Cadet Scott Knox, Killkeel Detachment, Cadet Ryan Hitchings, Ashfield Detachment and Cadet Aoife Collins, Killyleagh Detachment.  The prize for Best Overall Cadet went to Cadet John McClure from Markethill Detachment (pictured with Colonel Maurice Warnock, 2nd NI Bn ACF)
