FIRST FOR FIRST AID

Cadets from across Northern Ireland went head to head at the annual Army Cadet Force Association (ACFA) First Aid competition and for the first time they were joined this year by teams from St John’s Ambulance.

The competition involved some very exciting scenarios and the cadets got to demonstrate all the First Aid skills they have learned through the cadets.

The overall winning team was the Royal School Armagh CCF, pictured below:  (from left to right)  Cadet Lance Corporal David Grimeson, Cadet Corporal Rachel Martin, Cadet Flight Sergeant Mark Wilson and Cadet Emma Lutton:

Colonel David McCleery OBE, Chairman of the ACFA for NI and pictured above with the winning team, said: “The skills which are earning these young people accolades today will certainly be of value to them throughout their adult lives and I commend all of the teams for the enthusiasm which they have brought to this valuable subject.  Their grasp of First Aid is already extensive, and their determination to develop and deepen their knowledge is to be admired: altogether a first class performance in First Aid!”

The winning ACF team was Drumahoe Detachment, B Company, 1st (NI) Battalion ACF and the winner of the Perpetual Cup (2nd (NI) Battalion ACF) was the G Company team.  Congratulations must also go to Cadet Corporal Rachel Martin from the Royal School Armagh CCF, who was the overall individual winner. 

Several of these teams will now go on to compete in the 2016 National First Aid competition at Strensall in September.
