HISTORIC ST PATRICK’S PARADE IN ROYAL HILLSBOROUGH

For the first time ever in Northern Ireland, a truly special event unfolded as the Royal Irish Regiment marked a historic milestone – the successful delivery of its inaugural St Patrick’s Day Parade held in a public place in Northern Ireland. Set against the stunning background of Royal Hillsborough Castle, the day carried a real sense of pride, tradition and celebration.


Hundreds of spectators gathered in the warm sunshine for this commemorative occasion which brought together; Reservists, cadets, Cadet Adult Force Volunteers and members of the local community in a celebration of heritage, service and tradition. They stood shoulder to shoulder with serving members of the senior military united in honouring this high profile and memorable event. The procession was led by the Bugles, Pipes and Drums of The Royal Irish Regiment and the cadets were led by Campbell College Bugles, Pipes and Drums – both musical performances added a real sense of celebration.
Cadets played a key role at the event and In keeping with tradition, they were presented with shamrocks which they proudly attached to their caubeens. They then paraded past distinguished dignitaries and guests who had gathered for the occasion. This created a simple yet strong symbolic gesture adding a powerful sense of heritage and pride.


Following the parade, cadets attended a lunch reception generously provided by BFBS #Operation IceCream. As well as delicious and much appreciated food. this offered everyone the chance to chill, relax an share stories and reflect on a truly fantastic day marked. The sun kept shining and the attending cadets will remember being honoured to be part of such a historic moment.
