The Hitler Line Parade is held every year to commemorate the battle, just North of Monte Cassino, in 1944 when the second Canadian Division supported by the North Irish Horse broke through the Hitler Line, the last obstacle before Rome.
In recognition of their skill and bravery, the Canadian Government immediately awarded a maple leaf to be worn by the Regimenat.
Yesterday’s parade was made up of both B Squadron of the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry and 40 Signal Squadron who are the modern descendants of the North Irish Horse.
To commemorate this significant event the parade was taken by the Honorary Colonel of the Horse, Colonel J W Rollins MBE, with Major General Celia Harvey, Deputy Commander Field Army in attendance.
