HMS Hibernia’s football team have been crowned RNR football champions at a UK wide competition held at HMS Eaglet. The annual tournament, which took place on Saturday 13th May, saw teams from eight different Maritime Reserve units come together in Liverpool to compete for the prestigious award. HMS Hibernia’s squad, which was made up of 12 reservists, had been in training for this event since January 2017.
The unit has attended this tournament coming 2nd and 3rd in previous years; that however was not the case this time. HMS HIBERNIA scored 56 goals, conceding only 6, bringing the RNR trophy back to Northern Ireland for the first time since 2002 when it was won by HMS CAROLINE.
