INSPIRATIONAL CADET INSTRUCTOR HONOURED AT HILLSBOROUGH

Sergeant Major Instructor Nigel Williams is similarly honoured for decades of service and the Citation which accompanies his Award highlights the contribution he has made, and continues to make, to the smooth running of the 1st (Northern Ireland) Battalion, Army Cadet Force.

Appointed Cadet Stores Assistant in November of 2012, SMI has been responsible for the implementation and development of the Westminster Stores system across each of the Battalion Companies and was personally responsible for the massive task of providing the initial issue of new Multi-Terrain Pattern uniform to over 1000 adults and cadets in 2013.  

His hard work and detailed accounting ensured that all Cadets had at least one set of uniform to parade in at all times, something which reflects his practical support for the Cadet movement. 

His professional and amenable style has been pivotal in him developing strong working relationships throughout the Battalion, helping to set in place efficient working procedures and practices

His Award Citation describes him as ‘a dedicated, diligent and fully committed member of the Army Cadet Force Team and adds, “SMI Williams would never see a cadet event fail, and has volunteered to assist with permanent staff support on many occasions to provide essential cover during weekends and holiday periods.  He does this with a smile on his face and never complains at the impact it clearly must have on his own personal life.  As a result he is highly respected by all officers, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and Cadets within the Battalion.”

Last year when the Battalion was fund-raising for its designated charity, Autism NI, SMI Williams stepped up to the challenge and planned, organised and managed a charity cycle event which saw permanent staff and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers cycle of over 150 miles in just two days, raising a considerable amount of money which contributed to the Battalion’s charity donation total of moe than £14,000.

The Citation concludes, “SMI Williams is an outstanding example of the volunteer spirit within the Army Cadet Force. His dedicated efforts and hard work, both as a member of the permanent staff, and as a volunteer, have had a clear positive impact upon every Cadet and Adult Volunteer who has passed through the Battalion in the past six years.
