Northern Ireland Sea Cadets headed to HMS Raleigh to take part in the prestigious annual Drill and Piping Competition. The cadets and staff from Northern Ireland District headed across to the competition to compete against six other areas in various disciplines such as Armed Guard, Unarmed Guard, Piping and Colour Party. The competition is looking at the cadets’ dress and bearing, and their personal drill. The cadets have been working hard over the last 5 weeks to perfect their routines, and the level of commitment has been recognised by all.

Leading Cadet Ben Somerville (Guard Commander) from Newtownards Unit said, “This was my final year attending the Drill and Piping Competition as a cadet, and to have been selected as the guard commander is a personal achievement for me. The team have all worked endlessly to ensure that our uniforms and drill were up to the standard to compete, and the team work and commitment from all was fantastic. The Sea Cadets has given me so much, and has made me the person I am today, and I am grateful to them for this.”
