Once again, Northern Irelands Cadets have proven their worth in Competition Shooting, bringing back a weighty haul of trophies to the province.
Of particular note is Cadet Corporal Amy Inman from Royal School Armagh Combined Cadet Force (CCF) who has brought back a multitude of awards from the season’s competitions including The Ladies Trophy and Junior Trophy from the Downshire RC Open; Junior Trophy in the Ulster Counties (East) Championship and the East Antrim Open; Gold in the Women’s Prone in the Junior International at Bisley; Gold in the Women’s Prone Team (and the highest scoring female) at the NSRA Inter Regional Match; and winning first place in several matches of the NSRA Bisley Championships including the Joe Blackburn Memorial Trophy and the British Junior SF Rhodes Trophy. She is one to watch, without a doubt.
The Army Cadets have had their fair share of successes with cadets from across NI aiming high in the summer competitions. The 2nd (NI) Battalion ACF won the Canada Trophy at Bisley with an F Coy Team winning the Centenary Trophy. Cadet Ryan Lindsay won the 300yd Individual shoot and the Rifle Brigade Cup for the highest ACF score in the Cadet 100! Cadet Corporal Jordan Stewart was one of 14 cadets selected to attend the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Annual Coaching Course, where he was able to compete in the Canadian National Championships. And in the Small Bore competitions, Cadet Corporal Beth Scott achieved a personal best and won Gold and two Silver medals at the NSRA Junior International Meeting.
This is but a few of the successes achieved by Northern Ireland Cadets and their skills have definitely been noted by the experienced shooting instructors that both the CCF and ACF have on hand. With these talents honed and nurtured, RFCA NI is looking forward to seeing many more awards coming to Northern Ireland as the cadets continue to grow and improve.
