
It was a very special day on Saturday 4th March 2023, for twenty two of Northern Ireland’s reservists and adult volunteers, along with twelve cadets, as they were welcomed for a presentation ceremony at the stunning Hillsborough Castle. The recipients were are all members of the Military Family and included representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force and their retrospective cadet associations. The Lord Lieutenants’ Certificate for Outstanding Meritorious Service, is one of the highest accolades that can be awarded second in importance only to one awarded by His Majesty the King.
It is one of the key highlights in the Cadet calendar, when cadets are selected by their nominating officers and presented for selection to become a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet. A selection board of senior representatives’ sits and after review they choose twelve cadets, from the highest calibre of candidates to be put forward for approval by the eight Lord Lieutenants within Northern Ireland. After the ceremony the cadets then take up their roles in support of their significant Lord Lieutenant and enjoy the opportunity to accompany them on an array of public duties. The presentation of certificates took place in Hillsborough Castle’s stunning Throne room in front of gathered family members and guests. Following the formal ceremony all the recipients and guests joined the Lord Lieutenants for a delicious afternoon tea.
It was a wonderful day enjoyed by everyone.
