The Ministry of Defence (MOD) announced its response to the Future Reserves 2020 review (FR20) and detailed the next steps in creating the new Armed Forces structure. The biggest change which can have an effect on employers is that the Reserve element of the Armed Forces will increase to form a larger, more integrated proportion of the whole force and will increase in trained strength. This will require Reservists to be available on a more guaranteed basis, though the overall commitment will be no greater than it is today.
In order to ensure the needs of employers are respected and addressed, Defence is moving to build relationships with employers based on partnering and giving greater predictablility and certainty as to when Reservists will be required for training or deployment. This will be informed by a consultation paper to be published this autumn. More detail on the changes can be found on the SaBRE website at the link below.
