RFCA NI engages with the Community at Armed Forces Day in Coleraine

RFCA NI was proud to attend and support Armed Forces Day Northern Ireland 2026 in Coleraine, joining members of the Armed Forces community, partner organisations, local representatives and members of the public in celebrating the service and contribution of our Armed Forces.

Throughout the day, the RFCA NI team welcomed visitors to its stand, providing information on the opportunities available through the Reserve Forces and Cadet organisations across Northern Ireland. Attendees learned how involvement in the Reserve Forces and Cadets can help individuals develop valuable leadership skills, build confidence, gain nationally recognised qualifications and form lasting friendships, while making a positive contribution to their communities.

One of the most common questions received by the team was, “What age can I join the Cadets?” Staff were pleased to explain that young people can join the Cadet Forces from age 12 and in Year 9, while the Sea Cadets Junior Section welcomes members from the age of 10. The strong interest shown by young people and their families highlighted the continued appeal of the Cadet experience and the important role it plays in youth development throughout Northern Ireland.

In addition to promoting the benefits of the Reserve Forces and Cadets, RFCA NI also highlighted the support available to veterans and service leavers through initiatives such as the Armed Forces Covenant and Defence Relationship Management. Visitors were able to learn more about how employers, businesses and local communities can support members of the Armed Forces community and help create environments where they can thrive.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to engage directly with the public, answer questions and showcase the breadth of support available across the Armed Forces community. It also offered a chance to recognise the commitment and sacrifice of serving personnel, Reservists, veterans, cadets and their families.

RFCA NI would like to thank everyone who visited the stand and contributed to the success of the day. Events such as Armed Forces Day play a vital role in strengthening understanding, building connections and demonstrating appreciation for those who serve or have served.
