The importance of teamwork, fitness and team spirit was evident in the HMS HIBERNIA team that competed in the Maritime Reserve Inter-Establishment Football competition held in HMS EAGLET, the Maritime Reserve training establishment in Liverpool.
The annual competition is a key sports fixture in the sporting calendar and HMS HIBERNIA has an enviable reputation as one of the teams to beat. Ready for action and keen to show their capability, a squad of twelve men and women set off for Liverpool.
In keeping with HMS HIBERNIA’s fearsome reputation, excellence was provided in spades. Starting strongly, the team managed to retain a high level of performance in each of their matches scoring 56 goals and conceding only 6. In a talented team, Able Seaman Owen Curry shone out winning the award for highest goal scorer with a haul of eleven goals.
The victorious HIBERNIA team are now looking forward to the opportunity to defend the trophy in next year’s competition.
