
The Royal Irish Regiment played a principal role in the recent visit of The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall when they visited Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin on Friday 12 May. Prince Charles unveiled four Victoria Cross paving stones in memory of Irish-born soldiers. While 2 R IRISH paraded their colours along with the Irish Defence Forces, others from The Royal Irish Regiment provided the bugler and piper along with escort staff.
Prince Charles unveiled four Victoria Cross paving stones in memory of Irish-born soldiers at the war memorial the Cross of Sacrifice in memory of Corporal John Cunningham, Company Sergeant Major Robert Hill Hanna, Lieutenant Frederick Maurice Watson Harvey and Private Michael James O’Rourke. The soldiers were awarded the Victoria Cross in 1917.
