WATER WAY TO GO

Lurgan Cadets have been diving into the latest activity on their packed Summer agenda: an introductory diving session with the experts from Lisburn Sub Aqua Club.

After a classroom safety brief the four cadets, all members of the busy Lurgan Open Detachment Army Cadet Force, were in the water, enjoying their introduction to the scuba equipment and how to use it.  Safe and supervised at the shallow end of the pool they practiced breathing under water and how to communicate to one another using hand signals … then it was in at the deep end!

Erin McCluskey said, “It was brilliant and I just can’t wait for the next lesson! We were all a bit nervous to start off with but, by the end of the lesson, we were all doing forward rolls and backward somersaults under water. Fantastic fun and something I would never have tried had it not been for the Cadets – and we even earned a certificate for our first attempts at scuba.  It certainly beats hanging around all Summer complaining that there’s nothing special to do.”
