We are delighted to welcome Kilkeel High School as the latest school to enrol within the Combined Cadet Force (CCF). This is a registered charity who exist in over 500 secondary schools across the UK and are currently celebrating their 75th ‘birthday’ and offers the students who join, the opportunity to experience a wide range of challenges and adventures, everything from first aid to flying a plane. The organisation also provides the chance to gain qualifications, travel, make new friends, while acquiring life skills and confidence to help them reach their full potential both in school and the years that lie ahead.
Each CCF is an educational partnership between the Ministry of Defence ( MoD) and the participating school and may include Royal Navy/Royal Marines, Army or Royal Air Force (RAF). The launch of the CCF in Kilkeel High School was especially being the very first CCF in the UK affiliated to the Irish Guards Regiment, the school were delighted and honoured when a very special guest took part in the official launch, their mascot Turlough Mor or ‘Seamus’ (as he’s known when off duty) along with his handler Drummer Dean and Piper Donnelly.
Kilkeel High are delighted to become a CCF which enables them to keep in line with their objective of Creating Opportunities for all pupils in year 9 and above.
